All About Dad!
Our Precious Dad
Below you will view pictures of our dear Dad during his short time here on earth with his family. Dad passed away at the early age of 57 years old in the year of 1986. He was a coal miner all of his life. He worked hard at his job, and always provided for his family. Dad loved us. We could see it in his words, his face, and his actions. He loved our Mom. His love for her provided a healthy model for our family. Dad was always honest. Both to us and others. I never remember him ever telling a lie. For some reason, us kids couldn't get away with lying to him, especially Jason. Ask Jason what happens when you lie to PaPaw. So funny! Dad always made us laugh. It was fun to spend time with him. And, Dad helped others. He was generous with his home and his time. We will always cherish all the moments of life we had with our Dad.
Treasured Memories: Things I Remembered about Daddy.
Daddy loved for us to rub his feet. He would tell us I will give you a nickle to rub my feet. Back in the days a nickle was enough for five pieces of candy. We would stomp our feet and go and rub his feet until he fell asleep. I thought it took him forever to fall asleep. As candy prices went up so did our wages. I think I was making a quarter by the time I got married and moved out.

Daddy loved to pick on us as we were growing up. He loved doing it when we had friends over at our house. One year Lynn had a friend over. They were putting their shoes on to go for a walk. Daddy told Lynn to hurry back because he is going to need his shoes back. The look on Lynn's face was worth a million bucks. I snickered to myself. I did not want Lynn and her friend to see me laugh. I wanted to be cool like them so I just did what they did, made a mad face and stomped away.

I remember when I went in labor with my first child, Crystal Dawn, Dad and Mom had to take me to the hospital. We were driving from East Kingston to Raleigh General in Beckley. Here I was a 18 year old scared to death. The pain wasn't that bad but at the time I thought they were. Dad was driving really slow as usual, singing Zip- A-Dee-Doo-Dah and both Mom and Dad was as calm as could be, I was so happy to finally get to the hospital. Guess what? I laid in that bed 19 hours before I finally had Crystal. Now I see why Dad was taking his good old time. After all, Dad and Mom had already delivered 12 kids , what would they actually know!!!

Back in the days when Donna Sue and I was teenagers we always like going to a place in Pax called Taxi Stand. There we could play the jukebox and of course flirt with the boys there. Dad hardly ever let us go anywhere. But, one particular night, we ask Dad if we could go to the Taxi Stand and he said "YES" but we had to first get the supper dishes wash and dried. So we hurried as fast as we could to get the dishes done because we knew we had to be home before dark and we wanted to have as much time at the Taxis Stand as we could. Well wouldn't you know as we was just finishing up the dishes, here comes Dad for a cup of coffee, so he reaches up in the cabinet to get a cup and guess "WHAT', of all the cups in the cabinet he gets a cup that was dirty. That's right we didn't get to go to the Taxi Stand because Dad made us wash every dish in the cabinet. But, also he sent us to the 'Lions Den" for punishment as well. Oh, Dad called our room the Lion's Den when we was sent to our room!

As Brenda mention Daddy loved to pick on us kids, but as a teenager it would embarrass us around our friends. Of course Dad's intention was always in fun! One afternoon while walking up the road Dad yelled out from our front porch. "Fonda Lynn don't get those socks dirty because I'm wearing them tomorrow."As you could imagine, I was speechless but my friend thought it was funny, Soooooo Dad accomplish what he set out to do... made us laugh! Oh how I miss my Daddy!
